Stem Academic College offers selective preparation classes for students who wish to prepare for scholarship tests or selective school tests. Our selective school exam preparation classes are best suited for Year 7 and Year 8 students who wish to enrol for selective schools in Year 9. Our selective school exam programs prepare students for schools like Melbourne High School, Mac Robertson Girls High School, Nossal High School, Suzanne Cory High School, and more.
Selective school enrolments are based on selective school exams and other equity factors. Our research indicates that:
• 85% of admissions are based on entrance examinations
• 10% of admissions are based on equity considerations
• 5% of admissions are at the principal’s discretion
There are a limited number of places for students in these schools. Their highly selective nature means that the student must be in their second year of secondary school (in other words, a Year 8 student) and must be an Australian citizen or holding a visa for permanent resident status. Given that your child already fits these qualifications, all that needs to be done is to achieve a high mark for their selective school examination!
The SEHS entrance exam is a written assessment, designed to test ability rather than achievement and will include a focus on higher order thinking skills.
The required knowledge in any section will not exceed that found in the Year 8 curriculum.

Reasoning tasks in Reading and Mathematics assess a student’s ability to use their life and academic knowledge and skills and apply them to problems and tasks using the information provided in the task.
General ability tasks assess a student’s ability to learn in each of the tested areas by allowing the student to demonstrate their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills.
The exam takes approximately three hours to complete.
